Crystal Palace: Pierre Sage has two video games to show issues round and should present willingness to adapt – Reporter Pocket book | Soccer Information

If Crystal Palace had made the beginning they’ve this season beneath Oliver Glasner, they wouldn’t be a narrative.

Other than the defeat to Ipswich at house – for which that they had ten males for over an hour – outcomes have largely gone as anticipated.

Nevertheless it’s the performances, even in victories, that leaves Pierre Sage’s future doubtful. Steve Parish is giving Sage the chance this week to enhance the staff, particularly from a defensive standpoint, but when that doesn’t enhance in opposition to Besiktas and Newcastle – dwell on Sky Sports activities – it’s seemingly a change might be made.

There have been spells in video games the place Crystal Palace have performed very properly and that is with out Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr at full pace.

However Sage’s staff have been too straightforward to play in opposition to. They hardly ever management the match and the 17 objectives conceded in seven Premier League video games this season is probably the most within the league.

Sage has minimize a jolly determine with the media since his appointment, however in latest press conferences, his frustration and ache has been clear.

And the Frenchman has one other drawback. Sure managers which might be out of labor at the moment.

There have been contrasting views in the summertime from the Crystal Palace hierarchy about what sort of head coach was greatest to interchange Glasner.

They had been admirers of Thomas Frank, Gareth Southgate and Domenico Tedesco – all at the moment obtainable – earlier than hiring Sage. There was robust curiosity in Frank Lampard and Kieran McKenna too. Nonetheless, the previous Ipswich boss will price any membership who desires to rent him £8m if appointed earlier than June subsequent yr.

It’s my understanding, that alongside Lens’ second-place end in Ligue 1, the French Cup win led by Sage was seen as an enormous optimistic given the success Crystal Palace have had in cup competitions of late.

And there’s a feeling among the many followers that Sage has been dealt a tricky hand. Maxence Lacroix and Marc Guehi haven’t been changed adequately.

Axel Disasi was introduced in as the brand new chief of the defence and his suspension has damage Palace. Accidents to Chadi Riad and Takehiro Tomiyasu have meant Sage has solely named an unchanged again three in all competitions as soon as.

Adam Wharton has not been at his greatest, particularly struggling in opposition to Brighton. Daichi Kamada has been used additional up the sector whereas Ismaila Sarr returns to full health. That midfield mixture must be addressed urgently, with Quinten Timber making a energetic begin to his time in south London, however maybe needing to play in a extra disciplined vogue whereas Palace leak objectives.

A hamstring harm to Timber could drive Kamada to drop deeper and may very well be a blessing in disguise.

However however, you play the hand you’re dealt, and if Palace proceed to play in the identical vogue defensively, the followers will lose endurance.

Kick off 2:00pm

Chatting with Timber on Tuesday, he expressed his perception that the supervisor can flip issues round. Whereas there have been stories suggesting that some gamers are sad with Sage’s communication, I perceive that almost all of the squad stay firmly behind him.

Sage gave up Champions League soccer to work within the Premier League, however he now finds himself with two video games to show issues round.

It isn’t simply outcomes that’ll save him. Sage wants to point out he’s keen to adapt himself and his staff.
