Earlier than we get underway as we speak, only a fast phrase from David Warner, South Africa’s favorite Australian, who has laid into the poor attendances on the cricket to date within the Republic.
In a social media submit, Warner requested the place the followers are, critiquing the empty stands and lack of environment.
“We preserve listening to how essential Check cricket is, however the place are the followers in South Africa?” he wrote.
“Empty stands, no environment, and we’re imagined to imagine the format is prospering?”
I do not know if anybody within the T20 age believes the format is “thriving” David, however by all means proceed…
“You may’t preserve calling Check cricket the head of the sport if nobody turns as much as watch it.
“Harsh actuality, however somebody has to say it. Pathetic.”
Harsh from Warner? Most likely.
Truthful? Most likely.
As beforehand talked about, it is no secret that outdoors of England and Australia, Check cricket is woefully supported.
The explanations are legion and much too many to speak about right here with the cricket about to start out, however there’s a sense of a vicious circle of neglect with regards to the format outdoors of the massive three.
The primary Check in Durban was the primary house Check for South Africa in 641 days, one of the best a part of TWO YEARS and not using a house Check?
Why? As a result of India, Australia and England take the majority of the earnings from cricket and the smaller nations merely can not afford to host them any extra.
South Africa would not get the excessive profile collection through the peak of their summer season any extra and, and not using a sample of Assessments at the moment, how does one create a tradition of going to the Assessments?
This, because it occurs, could possibly be one thing Cricket Australia may need to take into consideration given the shortage of internationals the ladies are taking part in over the summer season this yr…
Moreover, it is not even summer season in South Africa for the time being! October is the earliest South Africa have performed a Check match at house of their historical past.
So earlier than Mr Warner will get all excessive and mighty, possibly he may need to take into consideration WHY no one outdoors of Australia or England is popping as much as Check cricket anymore and provide options, as an alternative of simply criticism.
