One of many largest wild playing cards within the deck of characters showing in Avengers: Doomsday is the return of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), the unique Captain America. Doomsday trailers and the Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release have all hinted that Steve’s resolution to make use of the Infinity Stones to rewrite the historical past of Earth-616 could have began the collapse of the Marvel multiverse. As such, it’s wanting like it is going to be as much as Steve to depart behind the ‘stolen life’ he took for himself, and leap again into the fray to reply for all of the worlds he broke.
That story angle is a fairly tough one to navigate; Captain America is the hero who now embodies Marvel’s Infinity Saga, so how will audiences really feel if he’s framed as the reason for multiversal cataclysm? Extra importantly, what sort of penance will Steve Rogers in the end must pay for all this mess?
Who Will Be MCU Captain America After Avengers: Secret Wars?
Marvel scooper James Mack claims that “Anthony Mackie will proceed as Captain America within the subsequent saga,” following Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. That assertion, if true, backs up some longstanding rumors that Evans was solely being introduced again as a particular occasion for Doomsday (and presumably Secret Wars). The query is what Steve Rogers’ standing will probably be on the finish of those subsequent Avengers movies. Will he get to return to his dream life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), or will he must be pruned from existence to make the start of a brand new MCU potential?
Both manner, Steve handed the protect and the mantle to Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon on the finish of Endgame. Sam made the transition from Falcon to Captain America in his Disney+ sequence The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and had his first huge superhero battle (and victory) in opposition to each a mastermind villain (The Chief) and a Hulk (Pink Hulk, aka President Thunderbolt Ross) in Captain America: Courageous New World.
Sam has now shaped his personal squad of Avengers, however their first true check will probably be at least defending Earth in opposition to the top of all existence, in addition to assaults from alternate realities (just like the Fox X-Males franchise) and figures like Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). There are additionally many rumors that say Chris Evans isn’t simply displaying up as basic MCU Steve Rogers in Doomsday or Secret Wars; he may very well be enjoying a number of variations of Steve Rogers or his different Marvel film character, Johnny Storm/Human Torch. One of many extra enjoyable theories is that Doomsday or Secret Wars will give Sam Wilson an enormous increase within the franchise by forcing him to throw down in opposition to Steve Rogers – presumably the “Captain Hyra” evil variant of Steve, who positively wouldn’t like seeing a person like Sam holding the mantle.
Do you need to see Chris Evans again within the MCU full-time? And the way do you suppose his arc ought to play out? Tell us within the feedback! Avengers: Doomsday will probably be launched on December 18th.
