Superman is the de facto superhero. He’s the character who consolidated the thought of what a superhero is to start with, leaping onto the scene in 1938 and altering the comedian ebook panorama eternally. Each hero since has been residing in his shadow and is consistently held as much as the usual he set. In fact, not even the Man of Tomorrow can deal with every part on his personal, and even when he might, it’s much more enjoyable when he interacts with different like-minded heroes. Superman has had loads of companions over time, from the story bloodhound Lois Lane to his long-lost cousin Supergirl. Nonetheless, relating to the one who fights alongside him finest, none is best than John Henry Irons, higher often called Metal.
Metal is a super-genius who initially donned a mech-suit of his personal design after Superman’s demise, wielding a hammer and striving to guard Metropolis in the identical method its first hero had. He’s a implausible addition to Superman’s mythos, however we’re not right here to speak in regards to the authentic Metal. At the moment’s matter brings us to the Absolute Universe, which totally launched its personal model of Metal, full with him taking heart stage and naming himself in subject #24. This model of Metal is the proper companion for Superman, and the DC Universe might massively profit from including him in.
The Man With a Soul of Absolute Metal
The Absolute model of Metal differs from his Prime counterpart principally in sources. Whereas the unique based his personal firm and made a fortune along with his genius, this John Henry was swindled out of cash he deserved from the Lazarus Company, leaving him destitute and plotting revenge. He created his first go well with and hammer in his automobile, however when he was confronted with the chance to take his vengeance, he as an alternative selected to assist Superman. After aiding him within the battle towards King Shazam, the Absolute Man of Tomorrow provided John Henry a job working with him. This gave him entry to all of Superman’s unimaginable Kryptonian know-how, which he used to make his new go well with and hammer, and helped him give you his personal superhero identify.
What actually helps John Henry stand out from the remainder of the solid is how he rides the proper line of being flawed and pushed to assist. By this level within the story, Superman has been let down by nearly the entire individuals he thought of his allies. Regardless of every part Superman did to save lots of the lives of even the individuals he hated, Lois and Jimmy each tried to kill Talia al Ghul once they obtained the prospect. Nonetheless, when confronted with that very same alternative, Metal selected to beat his unfavourable feelings and assist. He’s made it clear how a lot he wished to kill Ra’s al Ghul, but in addition how a lot Superman’s hope has meant to him, and the way it impressed him to be higher.
In some ways, John Henry looks like a extra flawed model of Superman. He has lived by way of hell and carries a burning anger in him, however he remembers what it’s prefer to hope and desires to make use of his presents to assist everybody. He might have as soon as been damaged, however he’s rebuilt himself right into a hero. On high of that, his super-intellect completely enhances Superman’s uncooked energy. Superman brings the emotional energy and stability, whereas John Henry has the smarts to make the world Superman imagines a actuality. Their dynamic is unimaginable, with John Henry even serving to floor Superman as an individual as an alternative of letting him be solely Superman on a regular basis.
The Good Reflection Of Who Superman Is and Who Lex Luthor Might Be
Metal is a self-made man who used his smarts and willpower to carve out a spot for himself beside the world’s best superhero, creating weapons and armor that would even let him go toe-to-toe with the Man of Tomorrow. If that sounds acquainted, it’s as a result of that’s precisely what Lex Luthor may very well be. The truth is, in the identical ways in which John Henry displays a variety of Superman’s character, he does the identical for Lex’s. John Henry is the final word illustration of what a kind-hearted Lex Luthor may very well be like, and each time he works alongside Superman, he’s exhibiting the world precisely what Lex might do if he wasn’t so narcissistic.
That makes John Henry the proper foil to each Clark and Lex, giving each of them perspective on what they’re lacking from the opposite’s viewpoint. Because of this including John Henry to the DCU could be good. Man of Tomorrow will closely give attention to the connection between Lex and Superman, however importantly, James Gunn has mentioned not to have a look at it like Superman’s direct sequel. When that inevitably does roll round, the dynamic between Superman and Lex will clearly have developed, and that will be the proper time to introduce the unimaginable Metal. He’s already confirmed that he’s every part both of those two might need in a companion, and his mere presence would put issues into perspective for each events.
