The DCU has solely simply exited a little bit of a aggravating interval. With the Paramount merger got here hypothesis that James Gunn might already be in troubled waters when it comes to his ongoing position, and that will have, in flip, meant vital uncertainty for the bigger relaunch of the franchise, which has actually solely lately gotten off the bottom. Though DC followers remained pretty divided all through that complete discourse concerning what they wished the result to be, with some eager to see Gunn keep on and others nonetheless holding out hope that the Snyderverse will some day make its return, in the end, it was confirmed that Gunn is anticipated to remain on in his present capability. Now, one more replace has come via, this one on the heels of the Lanterns finale final night time, and it is usually an optimistic signal for the DCU.
Lanterns was an fascinating addition to the DCU, particularly as a result of it was testing the waters, to a level, so far as the potential success of DCU reveals shifting ahead, notably after the seeming dip in curiosity following Supergirl’s unlucky flop on the field workplace. Nonetheless, season 1 was additionally doubtlessly going to be its first and solely, as there had been no official affirmation that season 2 was coming, nor was there actually a sign of great chatter about that chance. Fortunately, although, following final night time’s season 1 finale, it appears season 2 could now be actually within the works. In an interview with Collider, Lanterns co-creator Damon Lindelof dropped two tidbits a couple of doable season 2, at one level referencing “writers who’re engaged on ideating on Season 2” and at one other saying “The place they go in Season 2 and past.” Primarily based on that, it appears, season 2 is greater than seemingly taking place.
Lanterns Deserves a Second Season
Whereas nobody has outright confirmed that Lanterns season 2 is formally within the works, this has been probably the most promising replace to this point, and it is sensible. Lanterns proved to be fairly well-liked, which was very a lot in query forward of its launch and has little question taken some without warning. But, there are myriad elements at work right here when it comes to why the present gained reputation—elements that little question have contributed to the sturdy chance of season 2. For one, the solid is dynamic and compelling, and that was a significant win for the present and rapidly had audiences invested. Moreover, notably with the arrival of Man Gardner, this present has a direct tie-in to Superman and, presumably, Man of Tomorrow, that are at present among the many greatest, if not the outright greatest, current and future DCU films.
It ought to actually subsequently come as no shock that the powers that be wish to hold the present going, and which may solely be all of the more true because the franchise begins to take higher dangers (the DCU’s first R-rated horror film, Clayface, comes out later this month, and the weird mockumentary sequence The Folks v. Gorilla Grodd can be actively within the works). If this present is working, there’s no cause to cease it, so in all probability, we are going to truly get to see these characters return in a second season.
