We lastly know what these mysterious portals are in Lanterns, and it makes a disturbing quantity of sense. Lanterns is an uncommon TV present, with each episode reinterpreting the whole lot that went earlier than it. Lanterns episode 3 was John Stewart’s origin story, and it radically modified our understanding of the character. John has been groomed to turn out to be a Inexperienced Lantern all his life, skilled to be what his mother and father thought an ideal Inexperienced Lantern could be – one thing a lot lower than human.
However the backstory additionally revealed one other secret of the Guardians: a side of their know-how we’ve by no means actually seen earlier than within the comics. Trailers for Lanterns had given glimpses of mysterious black portals, and we had no concept what they meant. Lastly, we noticed John Stewart work together with one in every of these portals, and we discovered simply what they will truly do.
These Portals Are Gateways – However We Don’t Know The place To
Lanterns has already established that the Guardians have mastery over house (and sure time, as properly). In Lanterns episode 2, John found Hal Jordan has his personal private pocket dimension the place he saved the Lantern. It comes as no shock, then, to see that the Guardians have created what appear to be wormholes. From both facet, these portals seem completely black, presumably that means no gentle escapes the wormholes. However they can be utilized to move individuals or objects for an unknown distance.
Within the flashback, John is put to a take a look at by an unidentified Guardian. He steps into one in every of these portals, and he’s instantly transported to what appears to be an deserted shopping center. In narrative phrases, this serves as one thing of a “liminal house,” a spot between the cosmic and the terrestrial. Discover that the Lanterns use this as a worry take a look at, as a result of John has no concept the place he’s going, and falls an excellent top earlier than hitting mattresses they’ve organized.
It’s value noting that we don’t know whether or not or not this shopping center is actual. The Guardians know easy methods to conceal themselves, and there’s no cause to imagine they couldn’t intentionally create a liminal house that’s loosely analogous to an actual atmosphere on Earth. In that situation, somewhat than a wormhole, the black portal is in actual fact the gateway to a different pocket dimension – one intentionally designed to freak individuals out. That risk can’t be dominated out at this stage.
Lanterns trailers have hinted the Manhunters possess this portal know-how, too. If these are wormholes, then these portals would imply the Manhunter conspiracy might simply span the globe – with Rushville serving as the principle base. Alternatively, if these are gateways to pocket dimensions, then something as much as and together with alien spaceships and whole armies might be hid beneath Rushville. We’ll have to attend and see as extra is revealed.
