Earlier than Tom Holland grew to become the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man and shattered field workplace information, Sony tasked Andrew Garfield with following Tobey Maguire’s footsteps within the Superb Spider-Man reboot. Sadly, issues didn’t go as deliberate. The studio envisioned constructing a complete MCU-esque shared universe round Garfield’s Peter Parker, with a number of follow-ups and spinoffs within the works. Nevertheless, the franchise met a untimely finish when The Superb Spider-Man 2 opened to a blended reception, paving the best way for Disney and Sony to strike an unprecedented deal. Garfield finally obtained some lengthy overdue redemption together with his function in Spider-Man: No Approach House, however he nonetheless wonders about The Superb Spider-Man 3.
Talking with The Playlist, Garfield shared that there are nonetheless instances he thinks about what might need been. “Like, I truthfully, it’s one thing that I do in my idle moments, go, ‘Oh, what might that be like,’ you understand,” he stated. “Yeah, I get, I’m going into my seven-year-old creativeness,” he continued. “And I’m like, ‘Oh, what would it not be? What might it’s? What could be enjoyable? What could be therapeutic? What could be joyful?’ And, you understand, I haven’t actually landed on something personally but. However I’m certain that if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.”
Garfield’s candid admission struck a chord with Marvel followers. On social media, many individuals have shared their emotional reactions to the actor’s quote. “Bro, we give it some thought each single day too. Sony actually robbed us,” wrote one consumer on X. “[S]ony wasted their greatest [Spider-Man] actor,” stated one other. Regardless that it’s been years since Garfield was headlining the franchise, it’s clear he stays a fan favourite. The final sentiment is that he deserves one other shot to star in a Spider-Man film.
Will The Superb Spider-Man 3 Ever Occur?
The Superb Spider-Man collection has been making headlines just lately. Final week, Shailene Woodley mirrored on her expertise filming scenes as Mary Jane Watson for The Superb Spider-Man 2, a efficiency that was left on the reducing room flooring. Sony meant to have Woodley return for the third installment, but it surely was by no means meant to be. Because of this, some Marvel followers have been questioning if there’s ever an opportunity Garfield’s franchise may very well be revived, giving viewers an opportunity to see him and Woodley share the display.
As nice as it could be to see Garfield again on the forefront of a Spider-Man film, the chances of Superb Spider-Man 3 ever taking place are just about nonexistent. Regardless of the occasional daydream about it, Garfield himself has stated the movie is rarely going to get the inexperienced gentle. That ship has sailed, with Holland’s iteration firmly established as the most well-liked character within the MCU. Spider-Man: Model New Day rewrote the field workplace file e-book this summer season, turning into simply the eighth movie in historical past to gross over $2 billion worldwide. Bringing again The Superb Spider-Man sounds good on paper, however Sony would relatively use the time and sources wanted to make a Spider-Man movie for a fifth installment starring Holland. The animated Spider-Verse franchise coexists peacefully with the MCU’s live-action movies as a result of the distinction in medium makes it simpler for audiences to compartmentalize. We’ve by no means seen two ongoing separate live-action blockbuster movie franchises for a similar superhero earlier than; it’s a problem DC is attempting to resolve with Batman within the DCU, and Sony most likely desires to maintain issues streamlined with one model.
It’s a disgrace Garfield’s collection was reduce brief. The Superb Spider-Man collection is an instance of an excellent forged being caught in mediocre or dangerous films. Garfield’s return in No Approach House was so well-received as a result of followers all the time felt he delivered nice performances as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He was simply let down by the fabric round him. In contrast to Tobey Maguire, who starred in profitable films that ushered within the golden age of superhero films, Garfield’s movies had been missing within the storytelling division — notably The Superb Spider-Man 2, which was overstuffed with quite a few villains and plotlines. It will have been nice to see what Garfield might have carried out with stronger scripts.
No Approach House was the right coda for Garfield’s Spider-Man, however there’s an opportunity he’ll make one final look. He might all the time pop up in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, which is able to characteristic superheroes from a number of realities. We already know that many actors from previous Marvel films are returning (Fox’s X-Males), and there continues to be hypothesis about Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man coming again as properly. Maybe one of many Avengers films might give Garfield’s Spider-Man a poignant ship off. As soon as the Multiverse Saga ends, Marvel desires the MCU to be simpler to comply with, so it’s unlikely multiverse variants can have a task to play after that. Avengers is perhaps the final shot.
