Your report (Campaigners search listed standing for historic trig factors that mapped Britain, 16 April) didn’t point out the Vanessa trig level – Vanessa being a corruption of the Venesta firm, which made cardboard tubes into which the concrete for the pillars was poured. These had been designed for much less accessible locations, principally within the Scottish Highlands and Islands. I was by no means lower than half exhausted after I met one.
