Austin Butler has already performed a personality impressed by a comic book guide superhero, although audiences could not have identified it. Elvis was a lifelong fan of Captain Marvel. The King’s look was primarily based on the coiffure and costume of the DC hero Captain Marvel Jr. Butler portrayed Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, incomes an Academy Award nomination for a efficiency that required him to grasp the singer’s voice, mannerisms, and unmistakable stage presence. It doesn’t harm that his vocal work proved he can adapt to an accent.
His position as Benny in The Bikeriders additionally offers us a greater have a look at how Butler may play up Gambit’s swagger and insurgent streak. Benny is a person who lives by his personal guidelines, even when these guidelines set him in opposition to these closest to him. Acquainted territory for Gambit, whose historical past as an expert thief typically complicates his life with the X-Males. Butler can be the oldest actor on our checklist, and that might harm him if Marvel is in search of somebody nearer to the age of Inde Navarrette. His star energy and busier schedule can also be hurdles, however the alleged age choice could possibly be the most important barrier to touchdown the position.
4. Dacre Montgomery
In Stranger Issues, Dacre Montgomery’s Billy Hargrove was an boastful bully with a harmful streak, however the character’s ultimate moments gave the actor a few of his finest materials. Billy briefly regains management from the Thoughts Flayer and sacrifices himself to save lots of Eleven, turning a personality that the viewers had each motive to hate into one price mourning. It’s a unusually apt audition for Gambit, who has his personal historical past of getting tousled with a strong villain.
Within the comics, Gambit joins the ranks of Apocalypse’s Horsemen as Demise throughout the Blood of Apocalypse story arc. His new darker self is a continuing inner battle, one which threatens to take him over. Montgomery has already performed a model of that battle, and Billy’s ultimate moments present he can discover the humanity beneath the swagger. Whereas Gambit is much more charming than Billy, Montgomery has the look and depth to deal with the character’s darker historical past. We could not see Apocalypse once more within the Marvel universe anytime quickly, however Remy has some questionable historical past to supply Montgomery lengthy earlier than he ever turns into a Horseman. Sadly, Montgomery advised ComicBook.com earlier this 12 months that he’s extra taken with impartial movies than chasing one other superhero position.
3. Felix Mallard
Gambit and Rogue have weathered breakups, betrayals, and sufficient unhealthy choices to gasoline a cleaning soap opera for years. Although Remy flirts with everybody, his coronary heart belongs to Rogue. Felix Mallard’s efficiency as Marcus Baker in Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia is just about an audition for Gambit’s romantic affectations. Marcus begins because the brooding boy subsequent door. Ultimately, his relationship with Ginny reveals a extra weak facet of the character. Mallard is aware of how you can play a man who’s guarded one minute after which sporting his coronary heart on his sleeve the subsequent. We will virtually hear him calling Rogue “ma chérie” already. Mallard additionally has the shaggy hair and lanky construct to make Gambit’s look work. At 28, he’s additionally shut sufficient in age to Inde Navarrette to let that romance play out over a number of films. He’s bought the least display credit on the checklist, however that doesn’t imply he couldn’t make a captivating Cajun.
2. Nicholas Galitzine
Nicholas Galitzine is already enjoying one of the vital recognizable heroes of the Nineteen Eighties as Prince Adam in Masters of the Universe. We might see him commerce the Sword of Energy for some enjoying playing cards. Galitzine appears to be like like a superhero however has a lot of romantic lead expertise. That’s going to be essential for whoever finally ends up throughout from Inde Navarrette’s Rogue. He romances Anne Hathaway in The Concept of You. And performed a British Prince falling for an American president’s son in Crimson, White, and Royal Blue. Each films gave him loads of alternative to flex his charms, and Gambit has by no means been with out. He additionally bears an uncanny resemblance to Taylor Kitsch, the Friday Evening Lights actor who performed Gambit in X-Males Origins: Wolverine. Put the 2 actors facet by facet, and it’s not exhausting to think about Galitzine taking on the position.
1. Rudy Pankow
Outer Banks is a surprisingly addictive combine between Dawson’s Creek and The Younger Indiana Jones Chronicles. It options teenage romance, misplaced treasure, and a gaggle of mates that simply can’t appear to remain out of bother. Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank is the present’s standout. He’s a reckless troublemaker who not often chooses the sensible possibility when there’s a extra thrilling one. Appears like anybody we all know?
We wouldn’t be mad if Starkey bought the position. He’s nice as Rafe Cameron and we are able to see him enjoying Gambit. However Rudy Pankow is correct there! It’s like that meme of the man going, “That is good, however that is what I like.” JJ has just about all we’d need from Gambit. Charming, impulsive, fiercely loyal, and never too involved with breaking the regulation. Pankow makes him likable even when he’s being a complete fool. And that’s a top quality that’s essential for an actor enjoying Remy LeBeau, whose prison previous tends to catch as much as him. Give him Remy’s trench coat and a deck of playing cards, and we’d have a fairly good Gambit.
