After years of improvement delays, the MCU’s Nova is lastly seeing some motion. Michael Waldron, the author of Loki and Physician Unusual and the Multiverse of Insanity, is reportedly engaged on a script that may introduce the final surviving member of the Nova Corps to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The author’s most up-to-date challenge is the second season of Chad Powers, a soccer comedy he created with High Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell. Their partnership has led to fascinating questions round Waldron’s Nova. And he’s not able to substantiate or deny something.
In a latest interview with Selection, Waldron was requested about his collaboration with Sam Raimi on Multiverse of Insanity and if he had the ambition to direct a Marvel movie. The dialog then pivoted to Nova and whether or not he could be keen to solid his pal Powell because the lead. Realizing how Kevin Feige reacts to leaks, Waldron answered in essentially the most diplomatic manner potential: “These are the inquiries to be hypothetically asking somebody who was hypothetically directing the film. However that individual, in the event that they wished to carry on to that job, mustn’t reply these questions.”
That’s definitely one method to keep job safety till Marvel truly proclaims you’ve got the job. Waldron has prevented confirming he’s taking the helm on Nova, however he’s hypothetically saying the interviewer is asking the correct questions. And the hypothetical solutions might see one of many largest stars of the final 5 years commerce within the soccer helmet of Chad Powers for a Nova Corps helmet and cosmic powers.
Marvel Has Already Set Up Nova’s Origin Story
Richard Rider’s first look was in 1976’s The Man Referred to as Nova #1, created by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema. In a little bit of a raise from Inexperienced Lantern, a dying alien named Rhomann Dey transfers his powers to a Lengthy Island teenager, reworking him into Earth’s first Nova. In the course of the Annihilation storyline, the Corps was decimated, leaving Rider to hold the Corps’ legacy. The MCU has already performed the heavy lifting on that final half.
The Nova Corps was a significant a part of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, with Glenn Shut enjoying Nova Prime and John C. Reilly showing as Rhomann Dey. The Corps is decimated off-screen, with Thanos revealing he destroyed their homeworld of Xandar to retrieve the ability stone earlier than the opening scenes of Avengers: Infinity Warfare. That’s a fairly handy place to start out for introducing a brand new Nova. For his half, John C. Reilly has made it clear he’s sport to return to Corps and go the torch. He’s simply ready for a name from Marvel. We can also already know the film’s villain. Peter Serafinowicz performed Denarian Garthan Saal, a high-ranking Nova Corps officer. Within the comics, he ultimately turns into Supernova, a villain pushed insane after absorbing the Nova Corps’ collective energy. He might have died in GOTG, however it’s the MCU and we don’t understand how the Nova Corps energy works. Our first take a look at the Nova Corps was of Reilly and Serafinowicz within the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer. Right here’s each trailer from that franchise:
Nova has been in stalled improvement for years. After James Gunn was fired from Marvel, Nova was slated for a tv debut in the course of the Chapek period of flooding Disney+ with Marvel collection. Like Armor Wars, its been reconfigured right into a film pitch, but additionally like Armor Wars, it’s been powerful getting any phrase on ahead motion. Marvel has but to formally announce a director, star, or launch date, and Waldron has confirmed his dedication to protecting these issues secret, although he did beforehand let it slip he not less than thought Powell could be good within the position. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is a grasp at protecting secrets and techniques. He famously informed Tom Holland to hush when the actor unintentionally spoiled Avengers: Infinity Warfare to an viewers that hadn’t seen it but. Waldron doesn’t intend to be on the receiving finish of that gesture. But when he does find yourself being Nova‘s director, he’s already obtained a number one man in his group chat. Hypothetically, in fact.
