JP Cooney, who labored on the felony prosecutions of President Donald Trump with former particular counsel Jack Smith, has mounted a congressional bid in Virginia as a Democrat.
“I used to be fired by Donald Trump’s Division of Justice due to my work to prosecute him. However I will not let Trump – or anybody – cease me from serving. I am J.P. Cooney, and I am operating for Congress in Virginia’s seventh District,” he wrote in a Wednesday submit on X.

Cooney’s LinkedIn profile states, “As Principal Deputy to Particular Counsel Jack Smith, Cooney was a lead prosecutor in each felony prosecutions of President Trump for obstruction of justice and conspiracy.”Â
Smith praised Cooney in an announcement reported by the New York Instances.
